If an employee, who was in a department or cost centre, leaves, then they remain part of the total for that department. Therefore the number of employees showing as the total os not the correct number of current employees but rather, the number of present + past employees in that category.
This also prevents a business category from being deleted. We had to remove the leavers from the business categories before being able to delete the department.

Also, you cannot change the leavers' department etc from this screen like you can with current employees. You have to go to the leavers screen, find them and then go to edit their business categories.
