I have generated a departmental payroll summary but there is no sub total for each department. only way to do this is export as csv or xls to add sub total for each department.

Hey @Guest, one option for you might be the 'Standard Payroll Summary Report' exported in the 'XLS (detailed)' format. This version shows the entire payroll on one tab, and then has separate tabs for each department.
Alternatively, you could create a custom payroll report. Create a payroll report that includes the 'Department' column. Then, in the report 'Settings', use 'Report Splitting' to split the report by department, and toggle on 'Show ‘Totals’ row at the foot of tables'. When you run the report, you will have a table per department, with a total row for each table.
